First Avenue (Nancy's Meadow)

Description

Meadow habitat along the Housatonic River delta, 2.61 acres. Adjacent to the Charles E. Wheeler Wildlife Area.

This parcel of land, known as Nancy's Meadow, was dedicated as a tribute to the late Nancy Bruno, who loved nature. Nancy Bruno was a local enviromentalist and nursery shcool teacher, so she touched a lot of lives. The site is to be kept in its near natural state. A walking trail was dedicated to the memory of Judy Weyant, who was a strong supporter and tireless worker for the cause of land preservation.

This site is an on-going project which includes clearing invasive species of vegetation and planting native species. State threatened wild senna (Senna hebecarpa) grows here -- its spectacular yellow flower spikes bloom in late August and September
